Overview
Toyota’s bumper-to-bumper (or factory) warranty extends for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. While it does not cover the wearing your auto incurs over time, this warranty does provide coverage in the event of a defect in the materials, parts, or workmanship of your vehicle. It begins on the date that you officially receive the automobile.
If you need a wheel balancing or alignment, the warranty covers this step for a year or 12,000 miles. Exclusions to the warranty include the following: dents, scratches, upholstery damage, bad tires, environmental damage, and faulty brake pads.
Powertrain Warranty
If you experience major mishaps with the critical components that make your vehicle run, you’ll have prolonged warranty protection for five years or 60,000 miles. The covered parts under the powertrain warranty include the engine, the drive system (front-wheel or rear-wheel), the transmission, and the transaxle.
Hybrids benefit from eight years (up to 100,000 miles) of coverage for your battery and related components, like the inverter and hybrid control module.
Additional New Car Limited Warranty Components
Toyota’s limited warranty has three additional parts, aside from the factory and powertrain portions. For five years (and no matter your mileage), you will get coverage if the outside sheet metal of your vehicle is damaged by rusting or corrosion.
Toyota will also help ensure your auto meets emissions standards, but the length of coverage depends on where you live. Typical coverage can span from 2years (or 24,000 miles) to eight years (or 80,000 miles). Further, if your vehicle came with accessories, those additions will be protected for three years or 36,000 miles. Accessories obtained following the time of purchase are protected for up to a year, regardless of how much you drive.
Certified/Pre-Owned Warranty
Even your used Toyota will get some significant coverage. Standard certified/pre-owned Toyotas have a powertrain warranty good for 100,000 miles or seven years. The standard warranty, on the other hand, lasts for 12,000 miles or a year. For pre-owned Toyota hybrids like the Toyota Prius Prime, a battery warranty is included that covers 100,000 miles, or eight years from time of first use.
