With over $1 million spent every hour on research and development, as well as numerous safety education and partnership programs, it’s safe to say that Toyota is committed to protecting its drivers and preventing crashes. Toyota Safety Sense now comes as standard on many Toyota models, so be sure to ask your Toyota dealer about the availability of these active car safety features.

Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection

These advanced safety features scan the road ahead and allow the vehicle to sense when there’s an imminent danger of collision. If you don’t brake in time, the vehicle will do so automatically. It may also steer the vehicle away in situations where braking isn’t enough.

ABS With BA and EBD

Antilock braking has been standard in most cars for the last twenty years, but Toyota has added new technology for added efficacy. Brake assist (BA) works with a sensor on each wheel that sends signals if there’s a danger of skidding. The system then intermittently adjusts the braking pressure on the wheel to prevent locking. Electronic brake force distribution (EBD) ensures that braking force is evenly distributed across the wheels to avoid tilting or overturning.

Lane Departure Alert

With cameras that monitor the highway lane markings, this system produces a series of beeps to warn drivers if they’re drifting across lanes, helping to prevent accidental lane switching and collisions. It will trigger moderate automatic corrective steering if you don’t react. There’s also a road edge detection feature, which identifies the boundary at the edge of the road.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

This feature lets you drive at a preset speed and uses vehicle-to-vehicle distance control to ensure that you’re always driving with a safe stopping distance between you and the car in front. Using a camera on the windshield and radar behind the Toyota badge, it adjusts your speed to accommodate the surrounding traffic. A full-speed range version of the feature is also available.

Automatic High Beams

This uses a camera on the windshield to detect the headlights and taillights of other road users and automatically toggles the headlights to adjust between high and low beams. This ensures optimal visibility while removing the risk of accidentally dazzling other drivers.
