Knowing how to check your tire pressure accurately will always be handy knowledge. With the many benefits of keeping your tire pressure where it needs to be, we are glad to bring you these tips to gauge it yourself! No matter if you find yourself in an emergency or if your check tire light just came on, we have you covered.

  • Step 1: Remove the lid from your tire's valve. Make sure to keep it somewhere secure.
  • Step 2: Insert the gauge's nozzle into the valve of your tire. Make sure it's completely pushed in.
  • Step 3: After you've fastened the gauge in the valve, you'll have your reading!
  • Step 4: From here, you'll be able to see if your tire needs extra air or if it's still in good shape.

Your engine oil serves many functions in the daily use and performance of your vehicle. Have you ever wondered how to check it and gauge it yourself? Checking this yourself can come in handy if your car unexpectedly breaks down or to see if it's time to get an oil change.

  • Step 1: Before getting started, you will want to allow some time after shutting off the engine for your oil to cool down so you can continue with the processes safely.
  • Step 2: After raising your hood and securing it safely, check the left side of the motor, where you will notice either a yellow or orange handle. From here, you will want to remove this handle along with the dipstick. Grab a paper towel and wipe off the excess motor oil.
  • Step 3: Next, you will place the dipstick back into its holder completely. It will then give you an accurate reading of your motor oil once you remove it again.
  • Step 4: After checking how much oil is in your vehicle, you will be able to see if you require an oil change!
  • Extra Tip: There will likely be an oil line on your dipstick where you can tell where the oil levels should be.

Checking your battery's health is the first step to troubleshooting your vehicle if it's having trouble starting, you notice some lights dimming, or other battery-operated functions in your car are not operating as they should. See the tips below on checking and maintaining the battery in your car, truck, or SUV.

PRESERVE THE LIFE OF YOUR BATTERY

  • Tip 1: Up to 30 minutes of your vehicle running in idle each week will allow the alternator to serve its purpose and give a healthy charge to your battery.
  • Tip 2: Be sure to turn on your car at least once a week. The longer the duration of the drive before killing the ignition, the better.
  • Tip 3: Remember to keep lights and radio turned off when the car is not running or in use.
  • Tip 4: To the best of your ability, you will want to avoid short trips that require you to turn the ignition on and off multiple times a day.

CHECK YOUR BATTERY CONDITION

  • Sign 1: Locate your battery and check for corrosion or lose bolts around the leads.
  • Sign 2: Inspect the battery for any cracks, misplacements, or discoloration.
  • Sign 3: Notice any foul or burning smell inside the cabin when the engine is on.
