The 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid is a midsize sedan sold in four main trim levels. These are LE, XLE, SE, and XSE. You can further enhance the SE trim with an SE Nightshade package. Standard exterior features on the base LE trim include 16-inch steel wheels with covers, keyless entry for the doors and trunk, and automatic LED headlights. Stepping up to the XLE adds chrome accents and larger alloy wheels, while options include a sunroof and adaptive headlights.
With the SE, you get sporty styling elements, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a sport-tuned suspension. The SE Nightshade adds black trim around the headlights and taillights, complementing the black front grille, along with a rear spoiler, matte bronze 19-inch wheels, specialty badges, and matching mirror caps. If you want a sportier ride, the XSE boasts low-profile tires and gloss-black trim around the grille.
Engine (Power)
All trim levels of the Camry Hybrid share the same powertrain. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack. The combined output is 208 horsepower. The powertrain works with a continuously variable transmission that sends power to the vehicle's front wheels.
Performance
Although acceleration speed typically isn't the top priority for buyers in the hybrid sedan segment, the Camry Hybrid is reasonably quick. In speed testing, it went from zero to 60 mph in 8 seconds, putting it on par with others in the segment. The powertrain feels smooth in all driving conditions and the brake system is responsive and predictable. Everyday commuting is where this model really shines.
Interior
With a spacious cabin offering seating for five, the Camry Hybrid has a lot of strong points. Even the base trim comes equipped with comfort features like cloth upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. Tech equipment includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Wi-Fi access, and satellite radio. An optional package bundles a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless device charging, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The SE has simulated leather upholstery with fabric inserts, while the SE Nightshade Edition boasts a few upgrades within the cabin. In the XLE, you'll find heated front seats, rear air vents, simulated wood interior trim, leather upholstery, and ambient lighting. The top XSE showcases metal interior trim, while ventilated seats and a few safety upgrades are available as options.
Safety Features
All models come with airbags throughout both rows of seating, a rearview camera, anti-lock brakes, lane-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, stability and traction control, and forward-collision mitigation. New for 2023, the suite also includes automatic high beams and a forward-facing camera that can read specific road signs and display them on the digital driver information screen.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available as an option on the base trim as well, although it's standard on the XLE And XSE. The optional Driver Assist package bundles rear automatic braking, a head-up display, Intelligent Clearance Sonar, and a surround-view camera system.
