Trim Levels
The epic 2022 Toyota GR86 comes in two trim levels: Base and Premium. It has the short road clearance of a sports car, with a sleek body style, a large duckbill rear spoiler, and sharp, angular headlights. Its body lines are clearly formed for maximum aerodynamic advantage. Exterior features include LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, a dual exhaust system, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a set of scuff plates. The dual exhaust system increases engine breathability, allowing the engine to maintain a more comprehensive combustion cycle, generating more horsepower.
Engine (Power)
Both trim levels of the 2022 Toyota GR86 come with a 2.4-liter FA24 flat four-cylinder boxer engine that provides 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It comes tied to your choice of either a six-speed close-ratio manual transmission or a six-speed automatic with a dynamic rev management system. The close-ratio transmission provides phenomenal acceleration and swifter than normal gear shifting along a narrower operating speed range. The automatic's rev management system negates jolts from swift gear shifting, prevents nose-dipping, and helps avoid wheel locking.
Performance
The 2022 Toyota GR86 makes the run from zero to 60 in 6.1 seconds. The suspension system is front-strut and rear multi-link. The roof, fenders, and hood are all made of aluminum, decreasing the GR86's overall body weight. Its steering is particularly responsive compared to that of others in its class. The pedal system is perfectly set up for heel-toeing. Heel-toeing is a shifting method that allows the driver to downshift just before a turn, granting optimal rev range and smooth, quick acceleration off of corners. For high-performance traction akin to that of a small racing car, the Premium trim level comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. It is capable of four driving modes: normal, snow, sport, and track.
Interior
One of the most interesting aspects of the GR86's interior involves the Toyota Connected Services package. It comes with Toyota App access, Safety Connect 24/7 SOS assistance, remote start, lock, and unlock from your smart device, Service Connect vehicle health report access, 24/7 Destination Assist, and Wi-Fi Connect 4G internet access via a hotspot. The infotainment system includes an eight-inch touch screen, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Apple Carplay. The driver's cockpit includes a 7-inch instrument gauge cluster, a push-button starter, a cruise control system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, paddle shifters, and cloth seats. Interior upgrades at the Premium trim level include heated Alcantara and leather seats and aluminum sport pedals with rubber inserts.
Safety Features
The 2022 Toyota GR86 comes with the Toyota STAR safety system.
