2023 TOYOTA CROWN VS. TESLA MODEL Y

IN FREDERICK, MD

Overview

The new Toyota Crown is part of a new class of crossovers hitting the market. It offers drivers the higher riding position of an SUV but has the shape of a hatchback and drives like a sedan. The Tesla Model Y competes in a similar market with its crossover SUV styling. Take a closer look at the new 2023 Toyota Crown vs. the Tesla Model Y with DARCARS Toyota of Frederick and see how the Crown comes out on top.

Powertrain Options

The Toyota Crown has a hybrid powertrain compared to the Tesla's pure electric powertrain. The base setup for the Crown is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine combined with electric power. Toyota also offers the Hybrid Max powertrain for the Platinum model with a 2.4-liter turbo engine, electric power, and a six-speed automatic transmission. The Tesla Model Y comes only with a dual motor electric powertrain with the option for an extended range version. Both the Crown and Model Y comes standard with all-wheel drive.

Cabin Controls

The Crown has a sleek interior design with two 12.3-inch screens. One sits in front of the driver displaying important information about the Crown, and the other stretches across the dash for the infotainment system. An important difference between the Crown and Model Y is the Crown adds some climate control buttons to make it easier to adjust the climate when you need to. The Model Y's touch-only controls can sometimes be difficult to navigate.

Smart All-Wheel Drive

The 2023 Crown will feature Toyota's Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive system. It's designed to maximize the benefits of a hybrid powertrain by using a separate electric motor mounted to the rear axle to power the rear wheels when needed. The Limited's E-Four Advanced system drives the rear wheels with a motor and provides extra traction when needed. While the 2023 Toyota Crown and the Tesla Model Y both offer a raised driving position and sleek cabins, the new Crown clearing stands above the Model Y with its hybrid powertrain, advanced all-wheel drive system, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
